Descrizione / Description: Il Castello di Lipari sorge su un promontorio roccioso di origine vulcanica che domina il centro storico e il porto. Abitato sin dalla preistoria, il sito ha avuto continuità di uso attraverso le epoche greca, romana, medievale e moderna. Le sue stratificazioni archeologiche testimoniano l’importanza storica dell’isola nel Mediterraneo. L’attuale cinta muraria, risalente al XVI secolo e voluta da Carlo V, racchiude chiese, resti di edifici antichi e il Museo Archeologico Regionale Eoliano. Il complesso è un elemento chiave del patrimonio culturale di Lipari, in equilibrio tra paesaggio, memoria storica e identità insulare / The Castle of Lipari stands on a volcanic rock promontory overlooking the historic center and the harbor. Inhabited since prehistoric times, the site has seen continuous use through Greek, Roman, medieval, and modern periods. Its archaeological layers bear witness to the island’s historical significance in the Mediterranean. The current defensive walls, built in the 16th century under Charles V, enclose churches, ancient structures, and the Aeolian Regional Archaeological Museum. The complex is a key element of Lipari’s cultural heritage, reflecting the balance between landscape, historical memory, and island identity.
