Soggetto / Subject: Veduta del Vesuvio da Torre Annunziata / View of Vesuvius from Torre Annunziata
Qui passato e presente convivono in un paesaggio suggestivo, dove il mare (alleato dell’uomo) si oppone con decisione alla forza della terra / Nestled on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, Torre Annunziata holds the memory of ancient Oplontis, a Roman suburb famed for the Villa of Poppaea, an elegant patrician residence buried by the eruption of 79 AD, now a UNESCO site. The modern city grew between the 18th and 19th centuries through its milling and food industries. Despite natural disasters, it has always found the strength to rebuild, nurturing a deep bond with the volcano: unsettling, yet rich in life and identitary. Here, past and present live side by side in a striking landscape, where the sea (humanity’s ally) boldly opposes the force of the earth.
