Lontana dai circuiti urbani, Segesta offriva un’esperienza contemplativa, simbolo di un’antichità ancora incontaminata / In the 18th century, Segesta captured the imagination of Grand Tour travelers with its solitary Doric temple and the evocative landscape surrounding it. Standing on a hilltop, unfinished and remote, the temple appeared like a timeless apparition. Travelers such as Brydone and Saint-Non described it as a perfect example of classical beauty in wild nature. Far from urban circuits, Segesta offered a contemplative experience, a symbol of unspoiled antiquity.
“It is one of the most striking objects I ever beheld in my life.” (P. Brydone, 1773)
