La lava, molto fluida emessa da bocche laterali, raggiunse in poco tempo e a velocità impressionante, il centro storico cittadino seppellendolo sotto 12 metri di lava e modificando la morfologia e la linea di costa del luogo / World-famous for fishing and especially for artistic coral working, Torre del Greco (formerly Turris Octava), has very ancient origins that probably date back to the founding of Cumae. In Roman times Torre del Greco was a residential suburb, between the cities of Herculaneum and Oplonti, with Imperial villas, gymnasium baths and rustic villas. On June 15, 1794, the city was hit by a devastating eruption. The very fluid lava emitted from side vents reached the historic city center in a short time and at an impressive speed, burying it under 12 meters of lava and changing the morphology and coastline of the place.
